SUITLAND, Md. (AP) - Prince George's County firefighters rescued two people and a dog from a fire in a condominium building in Suitland.
The blaze was reported about 5:30 p.m. Monday in the 3800 block of Saint Barnabas Road. Firefighters found heavy fire and smoke at the three-story building. A couple in a third-floor unit were unable to flee by the stairwell and were rescued from their balcony with ladders. They were taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Firefighters also found a 3-year-old dog in an adjacent third-flood apartment and removed the animal, reuniting it with its owner.

Officials believe the fire was caused by a child playing with a lighter in a top floor bedroom. Eleven families were displaced and damage was estimated at $125,000.
